Ogutu Okudo is a Kenyan energy consultant and corporate executive who serves as Kenya country manager for Spring Rock Group, an African upstream oil development company headquartered in Lagos Nigeria. She concurrently serves as an energy consultant to Kenya's Ministry of Petroleum and Mining. Also, she is the Founder and CEO of the social enterprise, Women in Energy and Extractives Africa (WEX Africa).
Challenge:
Ogutu discovered the challenges in gender gaps within the energy and extractive sectors while studying the impacts of oil, gas, mining, nuclear, and alternative energy on the livelihoods of women and girls.
Solutions:
Ogutu solves for alternative energy on the livelihoods of women and girls in the field of STEM.
Impacts:
Ogutu has carried out programs directed at research, capacity building, community engagement, skill training, and STEM advocacy, and since 2012, they have impacted over 2000 artisanal miners by providing them with proper mining protective gear, created a networking platform for professional women in these fields.
